We raise our turkeys on GMO-free feed that comes from another local family farm in Ankeny. For the first couple of weeks they live inside in the brooder until they get feathers, then we move them outside to movable shelters and then as they are large enough to temporary paddocks that move every few days. Every day they get fresh grass and sunshine and are usually dress out at 10-19 pounds per bird (our typical average is around 14 pounds). The turkey you receive will be clean, plucked, and bagged, just like you would buy at a conventional grocery store. Giblets (heart, liver, gizzard) will be included. We also do not inject them with anything, so they are gluten-free! We keep them frozen, so it is often helpful to bring a cooler to pickup to bring them home.
Smoked Turkeys are our same turkeys, but they have been smoked by a local locker and are only half a turkey. They do contain nitrates and nitrites but no added water, and taste a lot like a mild flavored ham. They are cut down the center of the bird so you get dark and light meat, ready to heat and serve!
By moving our birds daily, we help to insure that a portion of their diet come from high protein insects and grass.
